While it might not be spring-cleaning time yet, I have a few real estate agent Facebook page updates that you can easily do in a few minutes. Think about it. When was the last time that you revisited these pages to update your contact information or images? That, and while your Facebook page might look relatively the same to you, Facebook is always updating features and rolling out new things that you might not yet know.
1) Updated Cover Image
Cover images are the first thing that people see when the land on your Facebook Business Page and it needs to leave a good impression. Having a photo of your city, your office, your logo (if you have one), or even something from stock art, just make sure it looks good. Updating your cover image is good too because when you do, Facebook treats that image as a new post that will show up in peoples News Feeds.
For a quick and easy cover photo idea, just find an awesome picture of your city. Then, as the seasons change, find more seasonal reflections of your city and update as needed. Or, for you more active users, try posting a photo of your new listing. Then in the description of the photo, add a URL so people can click on it to learn more.
How to change cover image: To do this, just hover over your cover photo and in the bottom right hand corner and click “change cover.”
2) Invite Your Past Customers and Friends to Like Your Page
You can post the coolest photos and best links to articles you want on your Facebook page, but if no one has liked it yet, then those efforts are for nothing. The best way to help your page get likes and additional exposure is to invite the people who already know you to your page. You can do this in two different ways through email contacts and current friends.
How to get more page likes: At the top of your Facebook page, click on the “Build Audience” tab. From here you can click on “Invite Email Contacts.”
On the screen that loads, you can either upload a .csv file (usually get this when you export your email list from a mail client) or you can connect to one of their services. You’ll then be able to invite your contacts to like your page. Don’t do this more than once a year because it can become annoying for your email contacts.
Under that same tab, you can click on “Invite Friends” and Facebook will send a page invite to people you select that you’re friends with.
3) Get Found Locally
This might be a no brainer for some of you, but it’s critical that you give your business the best chance at being found in your market. That’s why you need to have your page updated with your address and to make sure you have it correctly categorized. And as an added bonus, when you have a physical address listed for your business, you’ll then have access to let your customers leave you reviews on your page.
How to get found locally: At the top of the your page, click on “Edit Page” and then “Update Page Info.”
On this screen, you should make sure you have your current address listed and that you have your business “category” set correctly too. Bonus – if you haven’t taken the time to update your Facebook URL to be customized to your business, take a minute to add a custom URL.
While you’re on this page, be sure to also update anything else that you find relevant. This could be your contact information, short and long business descriptions, and your hours.
Like I said above, when you have a physical address listed for your business, Facebook automatically turns on a feature for you to help you get reviews. You can find this on the right side of your business page.
4) Unlink Twitter and Other Multi-Share Tools
Just because something is a feature of Facebook does not mean that you should use it. Years ago when the ability to send out a tweet from Twitter and have it simultaneously post on Facebook was super cool. That lasted about a month or so. They’re different mediums and with that, have very different acceptable posting frequencies. While you might be able to post on Twitter 6-10 times/day and be fine, with Facebook, you should really only post once or twice at the most.
How to disconnect Twitter from Facebook: To take care of this, you’re going to need to head over to your Twitter account. When there, click on the cog in the upper right corner.
On the left side of the page, go ahead and click on “Profile.”
Scroll down to the bottom of this page and you’ll see the Facebook connection. In blue, you’ll see the words “Disconnect It.” Go ahead and click on that. Voila, you’re done!
5) Explore, Learn, and Use Your Facebook Page Insights
Facebook is in the business of helping you be the best version of you possible to your business page fans. They’ve done significant work on their Insights tool and have even gone so far as to include a guided tour. What I recommend is that you explore your page insights using the guided tour and learn what types of Facebook posts are working well for you and to continue doing more of that.
How to view Facebook page insights: At the top of the page, click on the “See Insights” tab. This will take you to page insights screen. From here, you can get a snapshot overview of your page, view your latest likes, see how far your audience reach is going, and how your posts are performing.
The first time you visit the page, Facebook will prompt you with a welcome message box at the top of the page. There is a blue button that says “start tour” which I highly recommend you do. There is even a video that you can watch too, just incase you missed this message.
Lastly, if you need a quick refresher on the tour or you dismissed the message before going through the tour, you can always click on the three dots in the upper right corner of this page and click “Take The Tour Again.”
As Facebook grows and matures, similar to your own business, changes will take place that require your attention. The whole point behind a Facebook business page is to give your customers an interactive experience with your brand, more so than a website can provide. So being social requires the human element. Make sure you’re keeping your page up-to-date with your business information and that you’re showing the softer side of your business by truly being social. And if you need help, we’re here to lend a hand too.
