We just got back from the Best Places to Work in Austin 2014 award ceremony and we were honored to place 10th (out of 20). This is the second year we’ve received this award and the first time in the medium business category (51 – 250 employees). While it’s fun to talk, tweet and post about winning this award, it has greater implications than just a few social media posts.

1: Employee Morale
Bringing home a victory like this to the team has a positive impact on overall morale. Being named one of the best places to work shows our team that all of the energy they’ve invested in OutboundEngine is paying off and helps inspire continued enthusiasm for the company we’re building.
This year there were 276 different companies that were in the running and to be able to tell your team that you were one of the proud few resonates very strongly. And since the rankings are developed using anonymous employee surveys, everyone on the team played a direct role in our recognition. That’s something to be proud of!
2: Feedback Loop
Along with this award comes access to very critical information to running a business. By having a third party entity run an anonymous survey like this one, we’re able to get feedback internally that might not be so readily available to our managers. The results of our own survey from our employees provides plenty of feedback about what’s working and gives us ideas on how to change things in the future.
3: Recruiting Power
Given that the award is independently conducted and based on internal feedback from current employees, it gives us extra credibility on the recruiting front. Getting recognized as one of the best places to work in Austin helps us get even higher caliber and driven candidates to apply for the roles we need to fill. You can’t buy your way to an award like this; it comes from within the organization and helps us grow.
4: SEO Benefits
The award name speaks for itself, but it also speaks volumes to search engines. When someone Googles “best places to work in Austin 2014,” it’s incredibly powerful to have your name associated with that search. It helps us find new candidates to hire (many people tell us they start their job search with that very phrase) and it improves our search engine ranking for a number of related searches.
5: Local Presence
Whether it’s through positive SEO or word of mouth, we’re on a list that will last an entire year. OutboundEngine is now re-established as an important Austin company to know. We’ve doubled in size in less than a year and awards like this help us become further known throughout Austin as a company to watch.
